Five Ways To Find New Article Ideas

In the mood for writing?  Great.  Even with the best writing software on tap, you won’t have anything to write about if you don’t have a ready topic at hand.  Here are a few tips to help you produce ideas for articles that you can profit from.

1. Don’t wait for inspiration. Sometimes, a great idea comes along.  Most of the time, it won’t.  As such, never sit on your ass.  Pursue interesting topics with all your might.

2. Check for holidays, observances and such. Christmas, Valentines and Fourth of July are obvious picks for tie-in pieces.  Our suggestion is to be more creative.  What special celebrations this coming April can you write about?  Check government sources, such as the National Health Observances website and similar resources.

3. People want the same thing, repackaged to look different. Want to be published in a specific magazine?  Then check out previous issues and the themes of the pieces they print.  Most of the time, you’ll find them to be along the same lines.  Take those same popular ideas and come up an interesting twist for your next story.

4. Read letters and comments from readers. When you read a blog, read the comments.  When you read a magazine, pore through the reader’s letters.  Many of them will write in because they want to know something.  The person to give them answers could be you.

5.  Look out for interesting advertisements. Good ads have a way of seeping into people’s consciousness.   Even the most obscure references can end up interesting because of them.  Those subjects referred to could be your next popular piece.
