Editing your own drafts take plenty of work.  It’s an activity that requires a heavy amount of attention reading and re-reading a piece, then revising sentences in order to fix any weaknesses.  Still, at the end of the day, the results you typically gain from self-editing usually pales compared to hiring an objective editor to clean up.
